A good condition First Edition copy of ‘The Lost World’, Arthur Conan Doyle’s science fiction novel of an expedition to South America.

"Being an account of the recent amazing adventures of Professor George E. Challenger, Lord John Roxton, Professor Summerlea, and Mr E. D. Malone of the ‘Daily Gazette'”. The book was published by Hodder and Stroughton, and printed by Wyman & Sons Ltd contains black and white sketches and photographs.

The book has the original blue cloth boards with white borders and gilt lettering. There is some mild wear to the edges and spine ends and a few marks on the covers. The back page has some spotting, but contents are clean. There is an intact tissue guard protecting the black and white frontispiece. 319 pages in all

The Lost World was first published in 1912, concerning an expedition to a plateau in the Amazon basin of South America where prehistoric animals still survive. It was originally published serially in the Strand Magazine and illustrated by New-Zealand-born artist Harry Rountree during the months of April–November 1912. The novel also describes a war between indigenous people and a vicious tribe of ape-like creatures.
