A unique Victorian map of England and Wales which appears to have been filled by the hand of an amateur cartographer.
The bottom of the map bears the details: “Published by John Heywood Sr. Excelsior Works, Manchester”, suggesting that the original map was taken from the 1875-dated book The Travelling Atlas of England and Wales and later used as a hobbyist’s template. The county borders and names, as well as the names of the more significant places have all been filled by hand.
The map has been tastefully mounted and framed, but has suffered some foxing on its left half.
