c1960 Original Lock of Hair belonging to Actress Grace Kelly

This is a chance to own an original memento, namely a lock of hair, from one of Hollywood’s greatest stars, Grace Kelly, who later became Princess Grace of Monaco.
The lock was in the collection of Alexandre of Paris, one of the world’s greatest hairdressers, who included amongst his customers famous actors, members of royal families and the leaders of nations. Grace Kelly was at the time one of Alexandre’s greatest muses. He would boast that he had transformed the star into a real Queen of Beauty. Alexandre seems to have had a close relationship with Princess Grace and devotes a whole chapter to her in his memoirs ‘Sous le Casque d’Alexandre’, referring to him as his queen. The lock of hair is enclosed in a heart shaped clear resin block, with the typewriter printed title: S.A.S. La Princesse Grace de MONACO. (S.A.S stands for Son Altesse Serenissime) (Her Serene Highness the Princess Grace of Monaco). The label is imbedded inside the resin, so cannot have been added later. The lock is about 10 cm (4 inches) long and is a beautiful auburn colour. In her Hollywood heyday, she was blonde, but went darker after her marriage to Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956. The heart shaped plaque is in very good condition and is part of a collection of encased locks of hair from illustrious people in the 1960s, that we are also listing for sale. The item comes with a hair fashion drawing signed by Alexandre.
Grace Kelly (1929-1982) was an American actress who became Princess of Monaco when she married Prince Rainier III. She is known as an iconic actress of the Golden Age of Hollywood. She received an Academy Award, three Golden Globe Awards and is listed 13th among the American Film Institute's 25 Greatest Female Stars of Classical Hollywood cinema. As an icon that was established in Europe, Grace Kelly trusted the care of her hair and her hairpieces to the most famous hairdresser of the time in France, the legendary Alexandre de Paris. Alexandre was not only a hairdresser, but quickly became Grace’s confidant and friend. In the Museum of the History of Hairdressing of Raffel Pages in Barcelona, we find many examples of Grace Kelly’s hairpieces.
