c1960 Original Lock of Hair belonging to Queen Sirikit Thailand

£1,850.00

This is a chance to own an original memento of a living divinity, namely a lock of hair from Queen Sirikit of Thailand.
The lock was in the collection of Alexandre of Paris, one of the world’s greatest hairdressers, who included amongst his customers famous actors, members of royal families and the leaders of nations. The lock of hair is enclosed in a heart shaped clear resin block, with the typewriter printed title: S.M. La Reine Sirikit de THAILANDE (Her Majesty the Queen Sirikit of Thailand). The label is imbedded inside the resin, so cannot have been added later. The lock is about 10 cm (4 inches) long and is a black in colour. The heart shaped plaque is in very good condition and is part of a collection of encased locks of hair from illustrious people in the years 1960 to 1970, that we are also listing for sale. In his memoirs ‘Sous le Casque d’Alexandre’ (page 243), the famous hairdresser recounts that he was asked to visit Thailand in order to make produce a series of historical hairdos for the queen. He asked for a lock of hair in order to prepare his work, which is the item here. He was granted the privilege of being able to approach the King and Queen standing up, instead of the customary kneeling position. Given the status of the royals as gods, Alexandre had to have his profane hands cleansed and blessed before being allowed to touch her hair. He was showered with so many gifts by the royal family, that he complains he was hammered by French Customs on his return.
The item comes with a hair fashion drawing signed by Alexandre.
