c1961 Original Lock of Hair USA First Lady Jackie Kennedy

£5,850.00

This is a chance to own an original memento, namely a lock of hair, of probably the most iconic First Lady in History, Jackie Kennedy, the wife of U.S. President John F. Kennedy.
The lock was in the collection of Alexandre of Paris, one of the world’s greatest hairdressers, who included amongst his customers famous actors, members of royal families and the leaders of nations. Jackie Kennedy chose Alexandre as her hairdresser on the occasion of the President Kennedy’s first transatlantic State visit in May-June, 1961. A simple change to her hairstyle and a dress chosen by Alexandre, led JFK to exclaim to the press conference –“I am the man that accompanies Jackie Kennedy to Paris”. Her new look became her signature style. Alexandre devotes a large chapter to her, including photos, in his memoirs ‘Sous le Casque d’Alexandre’. The friendship continued after the visit and they became close friends. The lock of hair is enclosed in a heart shaped clear resin block, with the typewriter printed title: Jacqueline Kennedy. The lock is about 15 cm (6 inches) long and is a beautiful dark brown colour. The heart shaped plaque is in very good condition and is part of a collection of encased locks of hair from illustrious people in the 1960s, that we are also listing for sale. The item comes with a hair fashion coloured drawing signed by Alexandre, which is titled the ‘Jack Look’.
