Product Description

A very impressive looking Gold and enamel Boxing Champion Belt in very good condition.

The belt consists of chain linked large medallions mounted on a leather chain. The main central medallion has a painted on porcelain image of 2 boxers and is surrounded by a blue enamel border. On the enamel is ‘FLY WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP’. The yellow gold is hallmarked 9 carat (375) and has the jewellers marks for Carter & Cox – Silversmiths, Medallists, Cutlers, of Atlantic House, 46A Holborn Viaduct, London EC1. On either side are medallions with THE RING CHAMPIONSHIP and the initials RC.

The gold is mounted on a lightweight leather band with a gold plated buckle. Even the chain links are individually hallmarked. The belt comes with its original glazed oak wood display case, which is lined in blue velvet. It has the Carter and Cox label on it.
The belt was awarded to Johnny Chislett of Treherbert, Wales for winning the Final of the ‘Ring Blackfriars Flyweight Competition, on the 1st June 1922. He fought Johnny Jones (Treorchy) and the referee was Eugene Corri.

The belt comes with a large amount of research, press cuttings, lists of fights and pictures and was, until recently, owned by his family. A fantastic, high quality piece of Boxing memorabilia.
