1887 Doulton Lambeth Queen Victoria Jubilee Jug

A charming antique Doulton Lambeth salt-glazed Empire jug made to commemorate Queen Victoria's golden jubilee (50 years) on the British throne.

It was designed by John Broad. There are applied relief figures symbolising the different peoples of the British Empire with Queen Victoria sitting on the throne in central position. Above her, is the date of her coronation (1837) and below, the golden jubilee (1887). On the neck of the jug is a belt with the Order of the Garter's motto - "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE". The jug has an impressed mark for Doulton Lambeth, as well as the Registration number 71203 and the mark nn for the artist's monogram. The jug is in very good condition, with no damage or repairs. It has a nice mellow colour, unlike some of the harsher dark brown examples seen.
