An Art Deco sterling silver and enamel glass scent bottle, assayed for London and dated 1931.
Of geometric form, the bottle is of 12 sides, alternating between panels painted with black enamel and others that have been left clear. The silver is decorated with machined fluting and bears the maker mark “GB&S” for George Betjemann and Sons, who were active in London during the interwar period.
Similar to the enamel glass of Karl Palda, it is likely that the bottle was imported into England from Bohemia, and then finished with a silver neck and collar.
The condition of the scent bottle is good, though there are a pair of small chips to the stopper and one to the rim beneath the silver. There is some minor scratching to the black enamel.
Size: 14.5 x 9.5 x 7cm (5¾ x 3¾ x 2¾”)
Weight: 624g
