Product Description

An unusual and beautiful looking pair of early George III tall stem handblown wine glasses that have been finely engraved with grapes, vines and birds.

They probably date from 1750 -1770. The glasses are similar in shape to the more often seen twist air stem glasses, but here, the stem is made of a succession of knops on top of each other. The cups have an ogee shape (concave to convex) and the feet are quite flat. The pontils on the underside have been polished smooth. The lead glass displays a slight grey green tinge and wavy lines from the blowing process. There are no chips or cracks and little wear to the bases.

Size: 9 x 20 cm (3 ½ x 7 ¾ inches)
