Product Description

A beautiful quality elaborately cut lidded glass Sweetmeat Dish or Bon Bon Jar with a square shaped foot and ovoid body with similar glass lid.

The glass is decorated with cut strawberry diamonds floral petal shaped foot, body and lid. It has a hexagonal faceted stem with a cut annulated knop. The foot which is taper step cut to the top and faceted to match the hexagonal stem is petal and lobed in shape with a star cut base with small cross cut diamonds.

The bowl of the body has a band of strawberry diamonds, prismatic cutting, with alternating pillar cutting, strawberry diamonds and fine relief diamonds below a band of panel cutting. The flaring rim which is petal shaped and fan cut This sweet meat jar dates from around 1850, the early to mid Victorian period and is made of hand blown lead crystal glass with a greyish tinge, that has been beautifully cut. It may be Anglo-Irish in origin.

The high domed lid of petal or lobed shape has the same the cutting as on the bowl with the alternating pillar cutting, strawberry diamonds and fine relief diamonds below a band of prismatic cutting and an annulated stepped knob to the lid with a central band of cross cutting and a star cut top.
