Product Description

Three Blue and White hand painted porcelain bowls, measuring 18 cm (7 1/4 inches) diameter, with a spiral lotus design that were recovered from the wreck of the Tek Sing Cargo Ship that sunk in 1822, off the coast of Indonesia.

The wreck was found and recovered in 1986. The three bowls are individually hand painted and decorated with spiral lotus, but vary in colour depth and definition. Condition is good on all three, considering it has spent nearly 160 years in the sea.

The Tek Sing was sailing from Amoy Harbour in China, to Batavia (now Jarkarta) when it hit the Belvidere Reefs, in the Straits of Gaspar. It sank with the loss of 1800 lives.

The contents were originally auctioned by Nagel Auctions, in Stuttgart, in 2000.
