Product Description

Three Blue and White hand painted porcelain bowls, measuring about 18 cm (7 inches) diameter, and are decorated on the interior and exterior with blue painted lotus bands containing lingzhi fungus and peach branches and finishing with spiral concentric bands in the middle.

They are generally referred to as the spiral lotus design and were recovered from the wreck of the Tek Sing Cargo Ship that sunk in 1822, off the coast of Indonesia.
The wreck was found and recovered in 1986. The three bowls are individually hand painted and decorated with spiral lotus, but vary in colour depth and definition. Condition is good on all three, considering it has spent nearly 160 years in the sea. Each has a small chip to the lip edge. They come complete with the adhesive label of the Nagel Auction House and the original lot number.

The Tek Sing was sailing from Amoy Harbour in China, to Batavia (now Jakarta) when it hit the Belvidere Reefs, in the Straits of Gaspar. It sank with the loss of 1800 lives.
The contents were originally auctioned by Nagel Auctions, in Stuttgart, in 2000.
