Product Description

A beautiful Chinese blue and white hand-painted shallow dish from the cargo of the Tek Sing, a famous ocean-going junk that sank in 1822.

The Tek Sing was 50 meters long and weighed about 1000 tons. In modern times she is hailed as the ‘Chinese Titanic’ due to the enormous loss of life associated with her sinking. The Tek Sing was discovered in 1999 off the coast of Java. Her cargo contained one of the most extensive collections of Chinese porcelain ever found, the contents of which were auctioned in Stuttgart in 2000.

The dish is elegantly painted with free-hand patterns and adheres to a loose pattern. The condition is excellent and bears the original collection label from the Nagels Auction House in Stuttgart. Reference book shown not included.
