Product Description

An extremely fine Kakiemon china lidded urn jar with hand painted decoration of a moulded ciccada emerging from it's pupa.

Kakiemon is a style of Japanese ceramics, traditionally produced at the factories of Arita in Japan's Hizen province from the late 17th century. The style shares much in common with the Chinese "Famille Verteā€. The quality of enamel painting made Kakiemon highly prized in the West, where it went on to influence many of the major European porcelain manufacturers.

The urn bears the mid 18th century Japanese export marks, as well as marks indicating that it was made in Kanazawa in the area of Ishikawa by Koyuga.

The urn is decorated asymmetrically with pink chrysanthemums and plum trees. It features pink, gold, green and brown enamel paints.

The condition is generally very good, aside from a chip to the rim of the urn. Furthermore a limb on the finial is missing as well as a piece from the wings.
