Product Description

An attractive pair of Japanese cloisonné vases, dating from the late Meiji period (1868-1912).

Taking their inspiration from the minimalist works of Namikawa Sosuke, the vases are decorated with large peony flowers on a pale lilac background. The wirework appears to be of silver, with many of the cells containing different colours and shades for texture. The enamel is unusually thick, as are the copper fittings. The top of the vase is decorated with a thin band of clouds, whilst the bottom has a delicate band of black enamel circles

The condition of the pair is exceptional with only the metal having tarnished.
