c1700 Glazed Devon Red Earthenware Pottery Ewer

A very nice example of an early 18th century glazed Devon red earthenware pottery Ewer in good condition.

The Ewer or jug has the typical Devon country style with the bulbous body, short handle and small spout. It has an orange glaze both inside and out, but which doesn’t completely reach the base. The base is flat and displays a fair amount of rubbing from the prolonged use. The top lip has a bit of frittering from age and because of the softness of the earthenware. The only decoration are a couple of thin lines round the top of the body. There are no cracks or repairs.
