c1750 English Blue and White Chinese Style Delft Plate

A very pretty c1750 English (probably London) Blue and White Chinese Style Delft Faience plate in very good condition.

The dish is decorated in the Chinese Ming Dynasty style with vases of blue flowers and foliage. The plate is bordered by flowers and a simple lattice design. The edge of the plate has the characteristic frits where the brittle glaze has chipped off the softer pottery.

These dishes were made to try and compete with the imported Chinese porcelain of better quality and are now more desirable and rarer than the wares they were copying. Because of their fragility, few examples have survived in good condition.
