c1800 Rare White on Dark Brown Jasperware Jug

An intriguing and very attractive looking late 18th – early 19th century cream biscuit jug, which has been decorated with dark chocolate coloured cartouches and rim borders.

The cartouches have had Jasperware style sprigging in a Classical theme. The cream surface has a satin feel to it. The quality of the workmanship is extremely good and you get a feeling that it is an old piece. However, we cannot find any reference to other examples of this style and colours, all the more surprising, given the elegance and beauty of the piece. There are no maker’s details or batch numbers on the underside. It is possibly a prototype that was not adopted. Condition is very good, without any cracks or chips.
