Product Description

A quality pair of rectangular English Staffordshire Pottery commemorative wall plaques which are decorated with the portrait image of Major General Robert Baden-Powell, the hero of the Defence of Mafeking, during the Boer War in South Africa.

The plaques are unusual in that they are the same, with a transfer image of the bust of Baden-Powell (his rank appears as Colonel, beneath, making the date about 1899) and bordered in a green and gold dappled edge, but one is portrait mounted, whilst the other is landscape. The holes for mounting have been moved accordingly. The condition of the plaques is very good, without any damage. There are no maker’s marks on the backs.

General Baden-Powell is even better known for creating the Boy Scout Movement. This is part of a large collection of Baden Powell and Scouting memorabilia, that we bought.
