Product Description

A great studio pottery rectangular Pedestal Bowl by the renowned potter Clive Brooker, England circa 1970s.

It is a wonderful piece and is inspired by the pieces that were designed for a Japanese department store for ikebana flower arranging. It has a very natural geological form, with a strong Brutalist silhouette and feel. The body has mottled rough sandstone textured dark browns, with sgraffito and a central aquamarine blue in the bowl. The inside of the pedestal has the maker’s stamp. Condition is very good.

Clive Brooker (1934-2005) worked out of Middlesex from 1956 excluding a brief stint in Bermuda from 1963-64. He worked with Bernard Rooke and Alan Wallwork. From 1968, he made ‘Ikebana’ pots inspired by nature and the sea, that are stunning in form, for a Japanese market.
