Product Description

A beautiful Irish Belleek Tridacna china teapot, in very good condition.

There are no chips or cracks. The china has the typical ivory coloured pearly glaze finish and the shape mimics the Tridacna, the large sea clams with their ridged shells. The handle continues the marine theme resembling the stem of wrack seaweed.

The teapot dates from around 1900 and has the 2nd Belleek mark of the dog and harp in black ink, with the banner underneath, with Co FERMANAGH IRELAND. The 2nd mark was used by the company from 1891 to 1926. During 1891 the 'McKinley Act' became law In America. The purpose of this act was to ensure that any goods imported into the United States had to specify their country of origin. To comply with this, Belleek modified their First Period Mark with the inclusion of a banner in the form of a ribbon with the wording 'Co Fermanagh Ireland'.
