c1880 India Heavy Silver Bajuband Angada Arm Bracelet

£580.00

A beautiful and substantial late 19th century Indian heavy silver Bajuband Arm Bracelet or Armlet.

The arm bracelet comes from the Southern part of India and was worn by women as an item of jewellery. It consists of 3 heavy gauge silver rods with rope effect, held together by wound silver wire. The point where the wires join is covered by a silver boss. The silver tests as silver, but is probably below the level to Sterling (925).

The Bajuband is also known as Ananta and Angada, across some parts of India. It is fine piece of jewelry which adds another dimension to the attire of an Indian woman dressed in her traditional finery. Just like an anklet, the Bajuband lends a touch of beauty to the dress and complements the other jewellery pieces.
