Product Description

A gorgeous Art Deco 9 carat (375) Rose gold Slave bangle in nice clean condition.

The outer edge is smooth, shining nicely as it rests on the upper arm. Despite its size, it is not too heavy as it is hollow. The bangle is clearly stamped with the desirable Chester Assay marks, with the date stamp for 1909. The maker’s mark is that of Payton, Pepper & Sons Ltd, of Vyse Street, Birmingham. Because these slave bangles are hollow, they tend to get bruised and crushed with time, so it is nice to see this good example, with very minor nicks.

This large bangle is designed to fit on the upper arm and if you see archive images of Ladies doing the Charleston you will often see them sporting a slave bangle on the upper arm. Fans of Downton Abbey may recall seeing Lady Mary wearing one - they really were an item of jewellery for the "dedicated follower of fashion" in the 1920's.
