Product Description

An extremely fine quality 18 carat gold watch, in very good working condition, made by Abraham Louis Perrelet, the clock maker to the King of France.

Perrelet, born in 1729 Neuchatel, Switzerland is considered one of the founding fathers of horology and is best known for the invention of the self winding watch in 1770. This piece, which is extremely thin for a watch of that period, does not have that feature.

We estimate it to date from 1790 to 1820 which would mean the King was either Louis XVI or Louis XVIII.

The watch is engraved on the inside: no671 Perrelet Hger Mien du Roi a Paris (Watch maker and mechanic to the King, Paris). There are also gold Hallmarks for 18 carat.

The inside of the back cover has been engraved during the 1970'd with a dedication to Gabriel for his 50th Birthday.

The silver face is unusually off center giving the watch a unique appearance. The winder is also unusual in that it requires a male key instead of the more common female.

A very fine watch with aspects very sought after by collectors.
