c1880 Victorian Indian Penknife with Gold Mavelikara on Blade


A very attractive c1880 Victorian Indian quality made Penknife decorated with the name of a Southern Indian district.
The penknife is made of brass with antler slab grips. There is a single edged blade that has the name +MAVELIKARA+ decorated in gold letters. There isn’t any maker’s details on the ricasso of the blade. Condition is very good, although worn. The handle has a small swivel knob that would have had a small brass ring.

Mavelikkara is a taluk and municipality in the Onattukara region of Alappuzha district in the Indian state of Kerala. Located in the southern part of the district on the banks of the Achankovil River.
