Product Description

A nice original example of a WWII German 1st Pattern Luftwaffe Officer's Parade Dagger or Dirk.

The dagger is also referred as the 1935 pattern, and it was replaced by the more modern military 2nd pattern in 1936. Therefore, these daggers are substantially rarer, than the 2nd pattern. The Dagger is similar to the Luftwaffe sword, with white metal fittings, 'running swastikas' on discs and dark blue leather on the handle and scabbard.

The dagger is made by the renowned firm Ernst Pack & Sohne, of Solingen, under their brand Siegfried, and the details appear etched on the blade. This appears to be a late production example and has silvered steel fittings on the scabbard. The winged crossguard is also a pot metal, with traces of silvering. The pommel is made in aluminium, as in early models. This could be due to the fact that the company was gearing up for the new version dagger and using leftover stock. It could be also that it was period replaced as a result of damage.

The suspension chains have 6 and 7 links respectively and are made of aluminium. They connect to a clip which has the maker's marks for Overhoff & Cie of L├╝denscheid. There is also the suspension clip for wear on the leather belt, with a D ring. Overall, there is wear and oxidisation to the metal fittings, but the blade is very clean.
