c1780 German Officer Spontoon Spike Used as a Standard

A very fine condition German Officer’s Spontoon Spike, with pierced design on the spear head.
The Spontoon (also known as Halberd or Partizan) has a wide spearpoint blade with median ridge, becoming below an oval cusped edge, with a pierced cross shape. Below it are two short arms and the octagonal socket with three bands, joined to a blackened wood pole by elongated side-straps. The Spontoon would have been carried by Junior Officers and was a sign of Rank and was easily visible across a field of Battle before the cannon smoke obliterated everything.
