1788 Pattern British Light Dragoons Cavalry Sabre

£720.00

A really nice, very fine condition British 1788 Pattern Light Dragoons Cavalry Sabre, complete with it all steel scabbard, which may have been made in Germany.
The sabre is inspired from German and Austrian styles and the 1788 Pattern Light Dragoon trooper's sabre/sword was the first regulation pattern sword adopted by the British cavalry. Despite the regulation pattern from the Board of Ordnance, there were variations in design especially in examples made in Solingen compared to British made sabres. The sabre comes with a curving fullered blade, a steel hilt with long oval langets, a knucklebow and wire-bound leather covered wooden grip. The blade fits into a steel scabbard with a single suspension ring. The sabre only appears to have one small maker’s or inspection mark SA within an oval. Condition is remarkably good and the sword appears to have had very little use.
