c1900 British Coldstream Guards Officer P1845 Sword

A mint condition refurbished c1900 British Coldstream Guards Officer’s Sword, by E. Smith 5 Boyle St, Saville Row W’ (London), which was used until recently by a Regimental Colour Sergeant for parade ground duties.
The 1845 Pattern sword has a single-fullered blade, which is etched with the various battle honours of the Coldstream Guards along with the E. Smith maker’s marks on the ricasso. There is also a ‘Proven’ plug stamped on the opposite ricasso attesting that the blade steel is of suitable quality to fight with. Because the sword has been replated, the detail of the etching is quite faint. The basket hand guard and handle backstrap are newly nickel-plated as well as the steel scabbard. The basket also sports the emblem of the Coldstream Guards, a Brunswick star with a red cross within a garter. The grip is made of black shagreen (sharkskin) bound by twisted wire. The sword looks as new.
