Product Description

A fine, good condition example of an 1827 Pattern British Royal Navy Officer's sword bearing the crown and cypher of King George V.

His reign covered the period between 1910 and 1936. As such, we estimate the date to be around 1920. The sword is unusual in that it is a standard officer’s sword that has had the letters W.O., for Warrant Officer, etched on the blade. Royal Navy Warrant Officer swords are similar to the standard Officer versions, except that they tend to have black shagreen (ray skin) grip and the blades are plain, without decoration. In this case, this is a rare variant, having a white grip and the blade has the acid etched decoration, with the fouled anchor and GRV (George Rex V) cypher. The blade is ‘Proved’ as suitable for fighting use. It is numbered 3116. There are no maker details. The sword comes with its port epée sword knot.

The 1832 Regulations stipulated Warrant Officers should carry the sword and included Gunners, Boatswains and Carpenters.
