Product Description

A very rare and nice condition petrol pocket lighter and cigarette case with the emblem badge of the ‘Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force’ (SHAEF), in Germany, during 1945.

The lighter has a buttermilk colour body, with gilded and nickel plated fittings and a enamel painted shield with a flaming sword. The base has the impressed name ‘Monopol’, which is the model developed by Colibri and made by the sister company IBELO in Germany, after they separated before WWII. After the War, the companies merged again.

The rectangular cigarette case is also decorated in a similar manner, with the buttermilk colour and gold plated finish. It has a map of West Germany, showing the area occupied by the Western Allied Forces, and is engraved with the main towns and U.S. ZONE GERMANY. It also has the SHAEF shield, with the flaming sword.

The condition is very good, with the cigarette case never having been used and the lighter only displaying light use.

SHAEF only existed during the period 1943 to 1945. It was based in Germany (Frankfurt) only in 1945. The Commander in Chief for the whole period was Dwight D. Eisenhower. The lighter and cigarette case were most likely commissioned as a present for high ranking members and visiting dignitaries to The Allied Supreme Headquarters in Germany. We have not been able to find another example.
