c1895 British Cavalry Pattern Officer’s Army Water Bottle

A scarce 1895 Pattern Mark IV British Army Officer’s Water Bottle with a short hanging strap, possibly for a cavalry saddle and an unusual screw on bottle cap. These were used during the Boer War in South Africa.
The dark olive brown lenticular bottle flask is made of 2 enamelled steel circular dishes soldered together, with a tubular neck finishing in an alloy metal screw on cap. The cap has a narrow hole which allows the drinker to take water without undoing the cap. The water bottle has 3 edge strap fixings through which runs a short leather strap that finishes in a fixing flap. The bottle is in good condition with some wear and minor chips to the enamel.
