Product Description

A very fine example of a Boer War period British Officer's pocket watch style dry compass in good working condition.

The compass is not a standard issue and is most likely a private purchase. The body is sturdily made of heavy bronze, with a thick viewing glass and with a silvered bezel face. The body is in the shape of a large pocket watch, with a suspension ring for a watch chain or strap. The cardinal points are marked, as well as the 360 degrees. The button that generally constitutes the keyless winder on a watch, is for locking the magnetic pointer, in order to protect it when not in use. There are no maker's marks. The lens is not scratched, but has some staining on the inside. The case is made of leather and is complete with its strap. It is a bit delicate in parts, due to its age.

Compass Size: 9 x 6 x 1.8cm (3 7/8 x 2 3/8 x 6/8 inches)
Weight: 174g
