WWII German Army Soldier M31 Breadbag & Butter Dish

A very nice original example of the German Breadbag M1931 that was issued to almost every soldier in WWII.

It is a bag made of a canvas that hangs from the belt, with leather loops and strengtheners and has aluminium buttons. It was meant to carry the soldier’s ration, but ended carrying a fair amount of personal effects. Because of the fact that when the war started, they changed from aluminium to steel, this is an early example.

The Butterdish is made of butterscotch yellow colour bakelite and is in very good condition, without any cracks to the dish or the screw lid. It Is maker marked BGS, which carried on making them after the war.
