1756 Pattern British Heavy Dragoon Cavalry Flintlock Pistol

£3,750.00

A very rare and impressive looking c1760 example of a British 1756 Pattern Heavy Dragoon Cavalry flintlock pistol in very nice condition.

It has a plain 16 bore (15 mm – 0.58 cal) barrel and tang stamped with various military inspection marks and double stamped kings proof marks, rounded border engraved lock with 'GR' crowned and 'TOWER' across the tail and a figured full stock. The spring is nice and tight and operates well. It has had rococo added embellishments, which were typical of that period. The side plate, that holds the lock late from the other side has been cast in brass with trophies, cannons, etc. The butt cap has been lightly engraved and there is an engraved brass escutcheon. The ramrod is made of wood. There has been an added sheet of brass to the middle of the wooden stock to strengthen an old repair. These early British Dragoon pistols are rarely seen outside of museums.
