Product Description

A high quality English percussion, muzzle loader fowling sporting gun in very nice clean condition.

The gun dates from about 1845 and has a single round barrel, finished in a tiger stripe Damascus steel, in a 16 mm calibre (0.65). The stock is made of a rich red walnut wood, chequered at the grip, with silver escutcheon barrel pin fittings and a silver cartouche for the owner’s details. The side plate is engraved TOWLSON. The ramrod is made of wood. The hammer action is crisp.

John Towlson gunmaker worked in Marlborough 1841-1855 and was the son of Joseph Towlson gunmaker who worked in Newbury. He doesn’t appear to have been very prolific and his guns are rare.
