Product Description

A very nice example of an Imperial French Napoleonic M1777 AN IX (1800) flintlock musket (infantry pattern).

Referred to as the Charleville and periodically improved by modifications, it was the standard French infantry flintlock musket from 1777 until its last production during the 1840s. As its name suggests this model appeared in 1777, with modifications in 1800 (An IX) and was the flintlock musket of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. This musket is complete and includes the socket bayonet and the leather shoulder strap. The barrel tang is engraved M.1777 and is dated 1809. The lock plate is stamped in capitals 'M.RE IMP.ALE DE MUTZIG and the inspection mark BB. The musket is otherwise in good condition with a nice crisp action. The metal fittings (stamped asterisk above C) are steel and have a light grey age tone and the wood a deep brown patina. The calibre is 17.5 mm (0.69 inch). The bayonet fits the lug on the muzzle and is held in place by the retaining ring collar. Overall, the musket and the bayonet is in very good clean condition.

Please note that as an antique black powder flintlock, this gun does not require a licence to own in the UK (other countries’ rules may vary), unless it is intended to be fired.
