Product Description

A nice fine condition British Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in silver that was issued to Sergeant F.C. Baser of the 66 Company Royal Garrison Artillery in Jamaica.

The medal has the bust of George V in Field Marshal uniform on the obverse and FOR LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT on the reverse. It is stamped on the edge 97304 SJT. F.C. BASER RGA. The medal has the swivel suspender and the crimson ribbon with white edges. We haven’t researched the recipient at all, but know he was with the 66th Company RGA because of an Army Tailor’s Invoice for the supply of a Masonic Member’s Apron and Case for Lodge 2519, Moore-Keys Lodge, Sussex Hall, Hanover Street, Kingston, Surrey, Jamaica, West Indies.

The Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was instituted by King William IV in 1830. The medal remained in use for 100 years, until it was replaced by the Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct (Military) in 1930. During that time the reverse of the medal remained virtually unchanged, while the design of the obverse was altered during the reigns of Queen Victoria, King Edward VII and King George V.
