c1850 British 49th Foot Hertfordshire Regt Officer Shoulder Belt

A stunning looking, mint condition, British 49th Regiment of Foot (Hertfordshire) Officer’s Shoulder Belt Plate, as worn between 1843 and 1855.

It is a vaulted rectangular plate, of multipiece construction, with a seeded gilt back plate, on which is a burnished regimental plate with the Victorian Queen’s crown. Underneath this is a central number 49, surmounted HERTFORDSHIRE and surrounded by PRINCESS CHARLOTTE OF WALES within a laurel wreath that includes the regimental battle honours (Egmont Op Zee, Copenhagen, Queenstown and China). On the bottom is the Chinese Dragon. The reverse has 2 mounting hooks and 2 studs. There is also a fine condition leather protective pad to protect the belt from wear of the buckle. This is a rare piece in extremely fine condition.
