A beautiful looking British 1847 Naval General Service Medal with the Syria Clasp to William Lias, a Royal Marine on board ship.
The medal is in silver with, on the obverse, the head of the young Queen Victoria, designed by William Wyon and with VICTORIA REGINA. On the reverse is the image of Britannia seated on a seahorse. Above the medal and suspension bar is the added clasp with SYRIA. On the edge of the medal is the recipient’s name impressed in capitals WILLIAM LIAS. The medal has a length of original ribbon in cream with dark blue borders. The medal comes with a comprehensive amount of research information and copies of the official naval documents concerning Lias. He was from Crediton, Devon and enlisted in the Royal Marines, aged 18, in 1839.
