Product Description

A nice original Bronze Grade German award Spanish Cross (Spanienkreuz) without Swords and maker marked L/13.

The award consists of a Maltese Cross with a central swastika and small Luftwaffe eagles linking the arms of the cross. The reverse has a vertical pin and hook catch and has been stamped with the maker code of Paul Meybauer of Berlin. The cross is unusual in that the convex shape has been flattened intentionally and the recipient’s name TIETZE has been scratched on the inside arm.
This award was issued to members of the “Condor Legion”, which was a German unit that unofficially fought on the Nationalist side in the Spanish Civil War, between 1936-1940. The Legion Condor tested many of the weapons later on used in the Blitzkrieg campaigns in early WWII.
