Product Description

A very nice quality shield backed bronze wall plaque, which has the crossed flags of Britain and Imperial Russia in enamels.

The plaque commemorates the visit of the Russian Emperor Tsar Nicholas II to the Cowes' Regatta, in Southern England. Accompanied by his family, he arrived in the Royal Yacht Standart, escorted by Russian cruisers and destroyers, in 1909. The reason for the visit was the review of the Royal Navy by the British Royal family, although it permitted the monarchs to confer on the growth of expansionist militarism by Germany.

The plaque is made of bronze (originally gilded), held to the mahogany shield by 4 brass screws. The enamel of the flags, masts and borders is in very good condition. On the reverse is a small screw to hang by.

Size: 23.5 x 18 x 2cm (9 1/4 x 7 x 3/4 inches)
