Product Description

A really rare, stunning example of the WWII period German ‘Reichstag Eagle’ that adorned state and official buildings, embassies, etc.

As opposed to the more common type of eagle, whether political or military, this design was very heavily influenced by the Art Deco Era, and shows the bird in a stylised geometric design. It is therefore often considered the most striking and attractive of all the eagles of the period. The most impressive example was the huge version in the Kroll Opera House, in Berlin. The eagle is marked with the maker’s mark of RENO of Vienna, and has the RZM stamp and M3/32. The back has a negative stamped surface (copies tend to be flat) and there are 2 tapped threaded holes on the wings. There is also a horizontal steel rod, below the eagle’s neck to hook on the wall.

This design of eagle was used on the cross guard of Government and Diplomatic Corps Officer’s daggers.

Size: 94.5 x 32.5 x 6 cm (37 ¼ x 12 ¾ x 2 3/8 inches)
