Product Description

A very good, guaranteed original, WWII German Waffen SS Double Decal helmet.

This is the early Model 1935 pattern with the early war smooth grey green finish. The helmet is stamped on the inside skirt Q62 for the maker Quist of Esslingen and size 62 with the lot number 333. The liner, which is leather and quite dry, is maker marked B&C for Biedermann und Czarnikow, Berlin dated 1938.

The decals, which are about 90% complete, appear to be classic Pocher design. The liner is a size 57 and has the owner initials MW written on the leather. The helmet is very unusual and rare in that it started as an extremely rare double runic decal helmet, as worn by some units of the Liebstandarte Adolf Hitler Regiment (later becoming the 1st Waffen SS Panzer Division). Regulations stated that the helmets be changed back to runes on one side and Party badge on the other. Close examination of the Party badge decal shows the runic badge underneath it. As far as we have been able to ascertain, there are only under 5 examples of this type of helmet in existence.

The helmet was part of a group of headgear that have come from the world renowned Robbie Wilson Collection and are guaranteed as such. His collection is regarded as the largest collection of military headgear ever and while this led to the foundation of the Wilson History and Research Centre in 2008, part of this collection was still kept personal. Following his death in 2012 this personal collection has been sold and this piece is from that portion of his incredible collection.
