The dark blue woollen uniform has a red collar and is piped in gold bullion. The collar has a pair of gold and silver bullion Globe and laurels, denoting the arm of service. The single breast front has 9 gilded brass buttons with the King’s Crown (George V), Naval anchor and ROYAL MARINES. The most impressive part of the uniform is the very finely hand embroidered Colour Sergeant Rank on the right arm. This is applied directly and not as part of a removable patch. It shows the crossed Union Flags, behind a silver World globe, under a crown and surrounded by a silver bullion laurel wreath. This, on top of the Sergeant gold on red stripes. The cuffs are also highlighted in gold lace. The inside of the tunic is lined in cream wool and black silk. It has the owner’s details: PO. 16498 E.S. There is also a white blancoed leather Royal Marines service belt and brass buckle.
