Product Description

A near mint condition example of a British Royal Navy Full Dress Belt and Sword Straps.

The belt dates from around WWI and has 3 gold bullion embroidered bands on black patent leather, signifying the wearer has the rank of Captain or above, ascending to Admiral. The quality of the belt is superb. The belt buckle is also in mint condition, with a beautiful heavy gilding on brass, with the emblem of the fouled anchor and crown, surrounded by the laurel wreath. The crown is the King Edward’s version, used by the male monarchs from 1901 – 1952.

The maker’s details are stamped in gold on the inside tongue. They are GIEVE, MATTHEWS & SEAGROVE LTD – PORTSMOUTH LONDON DEVONPORT & CHATHAM. The company became Gieves Ltd after WWI, which helps to date the belt. These belts are hard to find and are sought after.
