Product Description

A well made, attractive desk top Sterling Silver cigarette box in very good condition.

The box has the lid machine tool decorated, with the central cartouche engraved with the Royal Navy Crown. The front of the box has 'COMMANDER (L) R.H.H. EDDEY, R.N. JAN. 1ST 1949'. The silver is stamped up with the Birmingham assay date marks for 1946 and is maker marked H. Haywood. They registered in 1946, but very little is known about them. There is a small bruise underneath the engraved text.

Of Commander Eddey, according to the navy lists, he served on H.M.S. Defiance, an old Victorian sailing ship, that was moored off Plymouth and used as a training ship. He was an Electrical Engineer.

The inside of the box is lined with boxwood.
