Product Description

A beautifully made repousse silver trinket box.

The marks on the base confirm that the box confirm was made by B. Neresheimer and Sohnes of Hanau. The British marks show that Edwin Thompson Bryant of London imported the box in 1898.

Neresheimer and Sohnes were known for their brilliant reproductions of pieces made by the master German silversmiths of the Renaissance.

The box shows a Classical scene, with Alexander the Great riding his horse Bucephalus. The scene appears to be set in a citadel courtyard, with arches and crenelated towers. The foreground shows women and hoplites conversing. The sides are decorated with classical motifs: arms, armour, laurel leaves and the Nemean Lion pelt worn by Hercules.

The condition of the box is generally very good; though there is slight wear to the rim of the lid. The felt lining is clean and the inside gilding remains.
