1747 George II London Sterling Silver Pint Mug Tankard

£1,150.00

Lovely George II Sterling Silver 1 Pint Beer Mug, of baluster form, on a stepped foot with double scroll handle with a moulded thumb rest.

The mug has the London Assay stamp, with the date stamp of 1747. The maker’s mark is partially rubbed off but shows an italic I or J which tallies with the mark of John Barbe, an important Huguenot silversmith.

He used this mark from 1741 to 1769. The mug is in very good condition for its age and only has a couple of minor bruises. On the base is engraved 0 = 11 = 3, which may represent the silver weight.
