Product Description

A fine condition example of an early Victorian Sheffield Silver Plate wine funnel, circa 1840.

It is designed to filter sediment from good wine, and to assist in decanting a bottle of wine by directing the flow against the side of the decanter, thus preventing bruising, or excess air. It consists of a basin, that has a large number of approximately 1mm diameter holes, in order to sieve larger impurities. Then there is an inner ring with a U shaped wire rod, to hold a piece of muslin cloth, for finer filtering. Finally, there is the spout, that is bent at the mouth. There are no maker’s details and the piece displays very little wear.

Size: 9.5 x 13 cm (3 ¾ x 5 1/8 inches)
Weight: 155 g
