Product Description

A charming Art Nouveau c1900 Austrian green glass Vase by Goldberg with a baluster shape.

The glass has an opalescent green to turquoise colour glass, which glows under ultraviolet light. It has been decorated with an applied thin silver sheet circular rim, on the bottom and top, and with wild flowers (not unlike Red Campions) applied the body. The silver has been finished with engraved decoration. This fine vase has a lightly polished pontil and what appears to be lightly etched or engraved writing, but cannot be deciphered.

Karl Goldberg opened a decoration workshop in Arnultovice, near NovĂ˝ Bor, in what was Austria, but now is the Czech Republic, in 1891. The earliest examples are found in Pazaurek's 1901 book on modern glass. It is worth mentioning that Pazaurek dedicates a whole chapter to identification of decors by company or artist. In some cases, blanks by one company were decorated by another company or by a particular artist.
